Are you looking for a counselor, a therapist who you can trust and build a good connection with? Have you considered working with a counselor who expresses or identifies as Christian? Especially if you are a person that identifies as Christian, having a Christian counselor is of vital importance for you.  Here are three reasons why.

The first benefit of working with a Christian therapist is simply because a Christian counselor utilizes the very same foundational beliefs that every Christian believer would.  For instance, as a practicing Christian therapist, I express my values from a Judeo-Christian worldview. Therefore, my perspective will be filtered through that understanding of life and the world. This worldview holds a narrative that believes the Bible is the word of God and offers hope and healing.  I often include the disciplines of the faith, such as prayer, worship, and meditation,  as added benefits of therapy.  This framework only strengthens your walk with your Lord and many times that becomes the essence of your healing.

The second benefit of working with a Christian Therapist is how clients are strengthened through the Christian belief that God is in control. When a client understands that there is a plan for their lives, and that plan becomes clear and they are able to almost “touch” it, it brings a sense of peace and joy.  These foundational beliefs of the Christian faith encourages the client to know that there is someone bigger working on their behalf. But even more so, these beliefs also ground the therapist, which enables him/her to act in concert by making room for the power and presence of God.

The third benefit of working with a Christian therapist, especially one who not only says that they are a Christian but one who lives out this Christian walk daily before their God, has a unique intuition into the mind and the psyche of the client, because of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is key in being able to know how best to treat the client in the way that God is desiring.  This enables the Christian therapist to better see their clients and to envelop them with compassion. As scripture often repeats, “and Jesus had compassion”.  This was often stated in scripture just before a transformation.  The therapist who displays compassion can only do this with the help of the Holy Spirit.  “For Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world”. 1 John 4:4

Overall the Christian client looking for healing and hope can find it. As believers, there is only one way to achieve that ultimate hope and healing and that is through Jesus Christ.  A good Christian therapist recognizes the healing power of the cross and the victory of the resurrection which is available to all who believe.  As a Christian therapist, I am able to integrate God’s ultimate truth with His divine imperatives and healing is inevitable.  God becomes alive within the client and a new thing has begun…

See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Is. 43:19
